2026 DIRT OVAL RULES
General Rules
All qualifying heats are to be four minutes in length. A-C Mains will be five minutes in length. Qualifiers will use IFMAR starts. Turn marshals must refrain from working on or repairing cars during a race, except in cases of minor issues, such as reattaching a ball cup for a steering link. If a pit lane is present, all cars must enter and exit the racing surface exclusively through the pit lane. Any car that becomes damaged and is placed in the infield will remain there until the conclusion of the race.
Drivers are required to turn-marshal the race immediately following their own. All cars must be available for technical inspection before and after racing, as determined by the race director. Once a car passes pre-race tech inspection, it must proceed directly to the track or impound area and cannot return to the pit area. Racers must use a personal transponder as specified by the race organizer. All classes require the use of 2S hardshell LiPo batteries with a maximum capacity of 6,500mAh.
To ensure safe battery charging practices, all batteries may be checked before each race to verify that the voltage does not exceed 8.44 volts. If a battery measures 8.45 volts or higher, the competitor will be allowed to reduce the voltage and retake the test; however, the race start will not be delayed for this process. Gyros and traction control devices are strictly prohibited in all classes.
The race director has ultimate authority regarding the enforcement of these rules. Decisions will be based on what is best for the majority of racers. Any item not addressed in these rules should be considered illegal.
Sprint Car Rules
All sprint cars must feature a scale-appearing roll cage, hood, side panels, nerf bars, and bumpers. The roll cage must have a minimum of four posts and resemble a driver’s cockpit. All electronics and radio gear must be installed inside the cage side frames. While three-dimensional scale-appearing exhaust headers are recommended, they are not mandatory. Rear cage side panels are permitted but may not extend more than 0.250 inches beyond the rear cage frame.
No Lexan or similar material may be attached to nerf bars, bumpers, cage, wing, or any other part of the car to manipulate airflow for aerodynamic advantage. The wheelbase must measure between 9.50 and 11.50 inches, with a maximum width of 10.00 inches. Each cage must have appropriate openings on both sides within the driver compartment, and the forward section of the side panels cannot be taller than the highest point of the hood. Maximum car length is 18.00 inches; maximum hood width is 3.60 inches; maximum cage width at driver halo, down tubes, and top frame rail is 3.60 inches; maximum chassis width is 4.025 inches; and maximum cage height from top of chassis to highest point of cage is 5.5 inches. There must be a minimum vertical gap of 0.750 inches from the top of the hood to the front cage crossbar. The wing must have a minimum height at the leading edge of 5.00 inches from the front bottom of the chassis. All cage and body components must be mounted on the cage’s centerline, and the chassis cannot extend more than 0.25 inches outside the side panels on either side.
Wing Rules
The top wing must have a minimum height at the leading edge of 5.00 inches and a maximum of 6.50 inches from the bottom of the chassis. Center sections and side panels must be constructed from at least three separate pieces of polycarbonate or carbon material—aluminum side panels are not permitted. Both main and front wings must be mounted centered on the cage, with no offset. The center sections of the wings must have all four corners at 90-degree angles; no canted or angled panels are allowed. Wings must be level from side to side, and the center section may not extend beyond the leading or trailing edge of the side panels.
Side panels must be braced to remain rigid and perpendicular to the center section during racing. Two braces are required from the top of the center foil to the left sideboard, and two braces are permitted below the center foil to the right sideboard. Braces may be a maximum of 0.750 inches wide, with the front edge of the front brace no more than 1.5 inches behind the leading edge of the side panel. Side panels may have a front, back, top, and bottom turnout of up to 0.375 inches, included in the maximum dimensions. Flat foil center sections may have a 0.250-inch turndown at the leading edge. Wing size is specified as 7 inches × 7 inches. Driver numbers must be displayed on each side of the wing’s side panels.

Offset
The right side of the cage must not be offset more than 3.625 inches from the outside of the right rear tire.
Ballast Weight
Brass, tungsten, or steel hubs, arms, arm inserts, caster blocks, and steering arms are prohibited. Ballast weight may be attached to the main chassis area if properly secured.

Solid Axle Option
If using a solid rear axle design, the motor must be mounted to the chassis, and CVA/CVD must drive the rear axle. Belts or chains are not allowed. A spur gear and pinion must be used in conjunction with the motor plate, which is mounted to the chassis.
CVA/CVD
Dog bones must be equal length, with axles and bones made of steel. Aluminum, titanium, or magnesium axles or bones are not permitted.
Electronics
• Speed controller: Hobbywing Justock (#30112003)
• Motor: Hobbywing 13.5T Justock (#30408010)

Tires
Tire choice is determined by the track or event. If multiple compounds of the exact tire are available, they may be used. No cutting, grooving, or modifying tire size and shape is allowed, except foam tires may be cut and grooved.
Cage
A scale-appearing contemporary cage made of rounded stock is required. The cage must be symmetrical and mounted level to the chassis. Unrealistic cage shapes designed to circumvent these rules are not allowed. The maximum cage width at the driver halo, down tubes, and top frame rail is 3.600 inches. Minimum cage height is 6.00 inches, with a maximum of 6.25 inches from the top of the chassis to the top of the cage at the highest point. Rear down tubes must slant forward. All cage and body components must be mounted on the centerline, and the chassis cannot extend more than 0.25 inches beyond the side panels on either side.
Bumpers
A tubular front bumper must be used and cannot be designed to direct air or create downforce. The maximum front bumper height is 1.5 inches from the bottom of the lowest chassis point. Scale-appearing side nerf bars are required on both sides, and a scale rear hoop bumper must be used. All bumpers and nerf bars must be rounded with no sharp edges.
Tail Tank
A traditional scale-appearing rounded fuel cell is required at the rear. A rectangle (Swindell) style tank is permitted but must be accompanied by a proper rear bumper. A flat tail section without a bumper is not allowed.
Headers
Three-dimensional scale headers must be installed on the left side in the engine area. Headers must be made of plastic or aluminum and cannot function as ballast weight inserts.
Side Panels
Flat side panels may be made from molded or fabricated polycarbonate. The maximum panel height in front of the driver's cockpit is 4.50 inches from the bottom of the chassis. Each side must have a minimum 0.5-inch-high by 2.5-inch-long opening in the driver's compartment. Additional material may be added to replicate a scale driver, but it may not exceed 1 inch by 1 inch. Panels may not extend more than 0.25 inches beyond the cage or into the area behind the rear axle and below the top of the rear nerf bar. Scale driver arm guards and engine vents may be used, provided they extend no more than 3/8 inch from the panels. No additional flares or turnouts designed to manipulate airflow are permitted, except those used for cooling electronic components.
Hood
A scale-appearing hood is required, beginning at the torsion tubes or cross brace, as in a full-size car. The hood must be tall and wide enough to allow for a scale engine intake and air cleaners. Minimum vertical gap must be maintained from the top of the hood to the bottom of the front cage crossbar.
Nose Area
No molded or fabricated nose piece may be used, as defined from the torsion tube or cross brace location on a full-size car. No components may be installed below this point on the same plane as the hood. Side panels may be present along the front cage, but they must not protrude beyond the cage sides. No scoops or bodywork are allowed in this area.
Extra Panels
No molded or fabricated scoops, wings, or extra panels may be added to the car for the purpose of generating downforce. The cockpit area panel used on full-size cars at the Chili Bowl is not compliant with regulations.
